, f: J7 {3 ?5 R6 B: ?1 C- fDigital Film Tools EZ Mask is an easy to use interactive image masking tool capable of extracting almost any object in an image--even if you are dealing with fine hair detail, smoke, or reflections. This extraction process creates what is known as a mask--essentially a black and white cutout. White mask areas are extracted, black areas not, and gray areas in between represent a level of transparency. Once a mask is extracted, the foreground object can be seamlessly composed onto a new background in Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as well as apply filter and image corrections only within the area defined by the mask.) % x2 A ^# c3 s% PTo work this magic, EZ Mask iteratively estimates the transparency value for every pixel in the image, based on a small sample of foreground (what you want to cut out) and background pixels marked by simple strokes on the image. Results show that compared with previous approaches, our method is more efficient and requires minimal effort to extract high quality masks for foregrounds with significant semitransparent regions. In addition, the foreground colors are estimated in the semi-transparent areas to create a seamless composite. • Multiprocessor Acceleration - Multiprocessor acceleration allows EZ Mask to render faster using multiple processors. The more processors a machine has, the faster the interaction and rendering.
: h. a) b2 K( q/ q# D• Refine Mode - Refine mode changes the behavior of the Foreground, Background, Unknown and Missing brushes so that they are interactive. As you paint a stroke, Refine mode automatically updates the mask or composite.
; R( e% v) V, N1 {! {7 K' h• Missing Brush - The Missing brush is used to mark missing foreground areas--fine details such as strands of hair that may be missing after the mask is generated. Using the Missing brush in these areas can sometimes help recover lost detail. , l7 C7 R T% C, L; x$ X0 V
• Spill Suppression - When a foreground object has been photographed against a solid blue or green backdrop, the blue or green color can have a tendency to spill onto the foreground object. When extracting an object photographed against one of these colors, you may find it necessary to remove the blue or green spill. There is now a Spill tab in the Options menu that allows you to remove blue or green color spill.
3 D: ?# J7 Z! Q• Split Comparison - Compares two images using a vertical split. Whatever you are currently viewing is placed to the left of the split. For instance, this is useful for comparing the generated mask to the foreground image.

• Deartifact - Blurry artifacts can be generated while attempting to extract objects that have drop shadows, similar colors to the background or out of focus edges. Deartifact, located in Options > Processing, can be used to limit these artifacts. - Y9 H* Q5 i1 O6 T4 M) y' u* g
• Color Management - A Color Management control has been added in Options > Display to make sure that the color of the image that you see in EZ Mask matches what you see in Photoshop.
