Alchemy CATALYST is a powerful localization tool. It supports Trados databases, allows you to create your own glossaries, visual work with java and much more. In general, a bunch of bells and whistles.
Catalyst programs do not apply to machine translation programs known to the general public. This is precisely the professional tool needed by the translator. The program itself does not know how to translate anything until you teach it to it.
Alchemy's Catalyst program is best suited for localization, that is, translating a program into the local language and adapting it to local conditions. Using Catalyst, you can translate executable files, resource definition files, extensible markup language files, help files, and some others.
Software files of the * .EXE type cannot be translated in a regular text editor, even if the president obtains permission to do so. Hence the need for a special program such as Catalyst.
When translating applications in Catalyst, you don’t have to remember how you translated earlier, for example, the “Cancel” text on the button - Strikethrough, “Cancellation” or “Cancel”. Using a special function, this translation will be substituted automatically.
Another plus of this program is that it allows achieving a unity of terminology. Each customer may have their own translation requirements. One customer loves when, for example, the word "motherboard" is translated as "motherboard", the other as "motherboard". Therefore, you need to create two different databases in the translation memory program so as not to confuse the terms. And then the unity of terminology will be respected.
Translation memory programs allow you to speed up the translation process by 30 - 80%, and in particularly successful cases - two to three times.
